Niklas Süle to Retire from Football at Age 30

Niklas Süle, a defender for Borussia Dortmund, has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 30, effective at the end of the current season. This decision follows concerns over a knee injury sustained during a Bundesliga match against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Initially fearing a third anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture, Süle underwent medical tests that later confirmed he had avoided a tear. Despite receiving positive MRI results, he decided to retire to avoid the possibility of a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Süle expressed his emotional response to the initial diagnosis, stating he cried for ten minutes, believing the worst had happened. He has been under contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 30 and has had a successful career, winning five Bundesliga titles with FC Bayern Munich and earning 49 caps for the German national team, including participation in two World Cups and winning the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
