Ghana Appoints Carlos Queiroz as Head Coach for 2026 World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed Carlos Queiroz as the head coach of the senior national football team, the Black Stars, in preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States starting June 11, 2026. This decision was made by the GFA's Executive Council in collaboration with key stakeholders.

Queiroz, who is 73 years old, has a wealth of World Cup experience, having managed four editions of the tournament, including leading South Africa to qualify for the 2002 World Cup and guiding Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010. He has also coached Iran in the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.

His extensive international coaching resume includes stints with Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar. Queiroz's appointment follows a poor run of results for Ghana, including a defeat to Germany and Austria in friendly matches, and the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
