Ghana Sacks Coach Otto Addo 72 Days Before World Cup

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the immediate dismissal of Otto Addo as the head coach of the senior men's national team, the Black Stars, just 72 days before the 2026 World Cup. Addo's departure comes after a disappointing run of results, including four consecutive losses, with the most recent being a 5-1 defeat to Austria and a 2-1 loss to Germany.

Addo, who had been in his second stint as head coach since March 2024, leaves the position after two years. The GFA expressed gratitude for Addo's contributions to the team and wished him well in his future endeavors.

The association has not disclosed the reasons for his removal or announced a replacement, as Ghana seeks new direction ahead of the World Cup, where they are drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. Ghana is currently ranked 72nd in the world and aims to improve upon their previous quarter-final appearance in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
