Ghana Praises Nigeria for Rescuing Trafficked Nationals

The Ghanaian government has commended Nigeria and the Department of State Services (DSS) for successfully rescuing 44 Ghanaian nationals from a criminal network involved in fraudulent recruitment schemes. The operation, which took place on March 16, 2026, involved a joint effort between the DSS and Ghanaian authorities.

The victims, comprising 27 males and 17 females, were lured to Nigeria under false promises of employment and travel opportunities. Upon arrival, they faced exploitative conditions, including restricted movement and psychological coercion.

The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the victims' safe repatriation to Accra on March 20, following a public advisory issued on March 13 warning citizens against engaging in fraudulent schemes like QNET. The Ghanaian government expressed appreciation for Nigeria's swift intervention and reiterated its commitment to protecting its citizens both at home and abroad, while also emphasizing the importance of collaboration to dismantle human trafficking networks.
