Ghana Thanks Nigeria for Rescuing 44 Trafficked Nationals

The Ghanaian government praised Nigeria's Department of State Services (DSS) for successfully rescuing 44 Ghanaian nationals from a criminal trafficking network. The operation, which took place on March 16, 2026, involved the coordinated efforts of the DSS and relevant Ghanaian institutions.

The victims, comprising 27 males and 17 females, were located in Uyo, Ikot Ekpen Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and were subsequently returned to Accra on March 20, 2026. They had been lured to Nigeria through deceptive means, including social media, with false promises of employment and travel opportunities.

Upon arrival, they faced exploitative conditions, including restricted movement and psychological coercion. The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement urging the public to exercise caution and verify travel and employment opportunities through official channels.

The ministry expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for its prompt intervention and reiterated its commitment to combat human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment practices.
