Ghana Arrests 93 Nigerians in Major Human Trafficking Bust

In a significant operation, Ghanaian authorities arrested 93 Nigerians, including 91 men and two women, and rescued 73 victims of human trafficking. The operation, conducted by the Ghana Immigration Service and led by Deputy Superintendent Newman Akuffo, targeted a network allegedly involved in cybercrime and human trafficking.

The arrests occurred in Accra at the Devtraco Estate, where authorities recovered 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones, 17 television sets, counterfeit US dollars, and fake gold bars believed to be linked to fraudulent schemes. Preliminary investigations revealed that many suspects entered Ghana through unauthorized border routes or overstayed their visas.

Ghana's Human Trafficking Act of 2005 criminalizes the recruitment and exploitation of individuals, with severe penalties for violations. This operation is noted as one of the largest anti-fraud and anti-human trafficking interventions in recent years, reflecting Ghana's intensified efforts to dismantle cybercrime networks amid increasing scrutiny of Nigerians abroad.
