Ghana Commends Nigeria for Rescuing 44 Trafficked Nationals

The Ghanaian government expressed gratitude towards the Nigerian government and the Department of State Services (DSS) for the successful rescue of 44 Ghanaian nationals from a criminal network specializing in human trafficking. The victims, comprising 27 males and 17 females, were lured to Nigeria under false promises of job opportunities.

The rescue operation was conducted through a joint effort between the DSS and relevant Ghanaian institutions, culminating in the safe return of the victims to Accra on March 20, 2026. Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on March 13, 2026, warning the public against engaging with fraudulent recruitment schemes, particularly those operated by Qnet.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaian citizens both domestically and abroad, and it condemned human trafficking practices. The statement concluded with a call for the public to verify travel and employment opportunities through official channels to avoid exploitation.
