Akwa Ibom Rescues 44 Ghanaians from Trafficking Camp

On Friday, the Akwa Ibom State government officially handed over 44 Ghanaians, comprising 27 males and 17 females, who were victims of human trafficking, to the Ghana High Commission represented by Mr. Leslie Lawson.

The victims were rescued from a trafficking camp located in the Ifuho community of Ikot Ekpen Local Government Area and the Ekpri Nsukara community in Uyo Local Government Area. The state government, led by Governor Umo Eno, emphasized its commitment to safeguarding lives and maintaining a secure environment, aligning with its agenda to combat human trafficking and organized crime.

The victims had been held in unhealthy conditions and were defrauded with promises of better opportunities in Europe. The state government is providing care and support to the victims as they initiate the process for their safe return to Ghana to reunite with their families.

The operation was commended by the State Commission for Humanitarian Affairs, and the public was urged to remain cautious against unrealistic offers related to migration.
