Ghana Praises Nigeria for Rescuing 44 Nationals from Traffickers

The Ghanaian government expressed gratitude towards the Nigerian government and the Department of State Services (DSS) for the successful rescue of 44 Ghanaian nationals from a criminal network that exploited them with false job promises. The victims, comprising 27 males and 17 females, were rescued during a coordinated operation conducted by the DSS in collaboration with relevant Ghanaian institutions.

The operation took place in Uyo, Ikot Ekpen, and the victims were safely returned to Accra, Ghana, on March 20, 2026. The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on March 13, 2026, warning the public against fraudulent recruitment schemes, particularly those involving Qnet.

The ministry reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaian citizens and urged individuals to verify travel and employment opportunities through official channels to avoid exploitation. The statement concluded with an appreciation for Nigeria's prompt intervention and ongoing cooperation in dismantling human trafficking networks.
