Nigerians Sentenced to 40 Years for Human Trafficking

Kingsley Ndifon, 29, and Emmanuel Akong, 25, were sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment each by Circuit Court ‘B’ in Tema, Ghana, for human trafficking and causing harm. They were found guilty of luring fellow Nigerians to Ghana with false job promises, only to confine them and compel them to engage in cybercrime.

The suspects were arrested on August 20, 2023, in Sebrepor after police received a distress call about individuals being held against their will. A police patrol team rescued 11 Nigerian nationals and recovered 16 laptops and an iPad from the suspects.

Investigations revealed that the victims were malnourished, subjected to severe physical abuse, and forced to commit internet fraud. The court, presided over by Her Honour Naomi Adusei Amamiampong Kucour, convicted both men on charges of conspiracy to commit crime, human trafficking, and causing harm.

Each received a 20-year sentence for human trafficking and a concurrent 10-year sentence for causing harm. The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating such crimes.
