Ghana's Chief Justice Sacked Over Abuse of Office Allegations

Ghana's Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkonoo, has been fired over allegations of abuse of office. Torkonoo, the third woman to head Ghana's high court, was suspended following a complaint lodged by President John Mahama in 2023.

A commission led by another Supreme Court judge investigated the allegations, which included falsifying judicial records and misusing public funds. The commission recommended Torkonoo's removal, leading to her immediate dismissal by President John Dramani Mahama.
