Ghana's Tallest Man Sulemana Abdul Samed Dies at 33

Sulemana Abdul Samed, popularly known as Awuche, passed away at the age of 33 on Monday at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after being admitted with infected sores on his legs. His death has elicited widespread grief, especially in northern Ghana, where he was a local celebrity due to his extraordinary height of 7ft 4in (223cm).

Diagnosed with gigantism and living with complications from Marfan syndrome, Awuche struggled with his health for years. His relative, Sulemana Abdul Kudus, described him as generous and well-loved.

Awuche had been receiving treatment supported by businessman Ibrahim Mahama, brother of former Ghanaian President John Mahama. Despite reports of his positive response to treatment, he died unexpectedly.

His fame brought recognition to his hometown of Gambaga, and he had shared his struggles with his condition, which began at age 22 while working in Accra. Awuche's legacy remains significant in his community.
