8-Year-Old Girl Dies After Falling on Iron Rod in Kano

On Saturday, an 8-year-old girl tragically died in Kano after falling onto an uncovered iron rod while attempting to cross a drainage area using a makeshift wooden plank bridge. The incident occurred near Tudun Wada Primary School, where the girl had been sent to a nearby shop to buy items for Ramadan iftar.

Eyewitnesses, including Aminu Adamu and Balarab Isah, reported that the girl slipped and fell directly onto the iron rod, which pierced her stomach, resulting in her instant death. Residents of the area criticized the unsafe conditions at the construction site, pointing to the absence of proper pedestrian crossings and the exposure of metal edges along the drainage.

Community members urged authorities to enforce stricter safety measures to prevent further tragedies and loss of life.
