First Lady Tinubu Commissions Renovated Girls' School

On [date not specified], Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, commissioned the renovated Alternative High School for Girls located in Agboju, Amuwo-Odofin local government area of Lagos State. She underscored the significance of girl child education for nation building, stating that the school was established in 2007 during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's governorship to assist girls whose education was interrupted by early pregnancy and socio-economic challenges.

The renovated facility includes two blocks with over 26 classrooms, laboratories for agriculture, physics, and biology, as well as classes in cosmetology, garment-making, hairdressing, catering, and home economics, alongside a library and ICT facilities. Represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, the First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to providing second chances for girls facing life challenges.

She praised the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and its Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, for their role in improving the learning environment and establishing more Alternative High Schools for Girls across Nigeria. Senator Tinubu urged the Lagos State Government to complete the initiative by establishing an additional school in Lagos Central.
