First Lady Inaugurates School for Disrupted Girl Education

During an inauguration ceremony, Nigeria's First Lady, represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, emphasized the importance of girl-child education for nation-building. The renovated school, established in 2007 during Bola Tinubu's governorship in Lagos State, aims to assist girls whose education was interrupted by early pregnancy and socio-economic challenges.

The facility includes over 26 classrooms, laboratories, and vocational training classes. Mrs.

Tinubu expressed her commitment to providing second chances for girls and commended the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for its role in the renovation and establishment of Alternative High Schools for Girls. She urged the Lagos State Government to complete the initiative by establishing an additional school in Lagos Central.

Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, representing her husband, highlighted the significance of educating girls for community and national development.

UBEC's Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, reiterated the Commission's commitment to alternative education access and skills development.
