Young Woman Balances Work and Family in Abuja

Khaliat, a 28-year-old woman from Southern Kaduna State, lives in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, and works in Abuja. She has been helping her mother, Teni Jame, with their akara business since childhood.

After her father's loss of employment, Khaliat took on significant family responsibilities, including managing sales and finances for their food business. She wakes up at 4:30 AM daily to prepare ingredients and travels to Abuja to sell akara, often returning home to assist with preparations for the next day.

Despite the challenges, Khaliat remains committed to her family's survival and her siblings' education. A pivotal moment in their business came in 2020 when a family friend, Adam, helped secure a higher patronage in Abuja, leading to business expansion.

Khaliat's work ethic and dedication have earned her respect in her workplace, where she balances her job with family obligations, often sacrificing social gatherings for her responsibilities.
