Amusan Shines as Nigeria Excels at Commonwealth Games

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Tobi Amusan, the reigning Commonwealth champion and world record holder, advanced to the women’s 100 metres hurdles final with a remarkable time of 12.19 seconds, despite a +3.8 metres per second tailwind that disqualified it as an official record. Amusan finished ahead of South Africa’s Marione Fourie and Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill.

She aims to win her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in this event. Additionally, Nigeria's athletics team saw Samuel Ogazi and Edidiong Udo qualify for the men’s 400m final, with Ogazi winning his semifinal in 44.52 seconds and Udo initially finishing third in 45.53 seconds but being promoted to second after Jamaica’s Antonio Watson was disqualified.

Ella Onojuvwevwo also qualified for the women’s 400m final, contributing to Nigeria's strong performance in athletics at the Games.
