Enekwechi Claims Gold as Nigeria's Eighth Medal in Glasgow

At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi won Nigeria's eighth gold medal in the Men’s Shot Put event with a championship-winning throw of 21.07m, surpassing defending champion Tom Walsh of New Zealand, who threw 21.03m. This victory marked Enekwechi's first gold medal in three Commonwealth Games, following a silver in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018 and a fourth-place finish in Birmingham in 2022.

His friend and rival, Scott Lincoln from England, secured the bronze with a throw of 20.99m. In contrast, Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, finished third with a time of 12.60secs, unable to defend her title from previous championships.

Amusan had a challenging race, starting poorly and running with pain in her toe, while Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas won gold with 12.33secs. Ella Onojuvwevwo advanced to the women’s 400m final, while other Nigerian athletes faced challenges in their events.
