Enekwechi Wins Historic Gold for Nigeria at Commonwealth Games

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, a 33-year-old Nigerian athlete, became the first Nigerian to win the men’s shot put gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, achieving this historic feat in Glasgow. He secured the title with a championship-winning throw of 21.07m on his penultimate attempt at Scotstoun Stadium, surpassing defending champion Tom Walsh of New Zealand, who had an opening throw of 21.03m but could not respond to Enekwechi's performance.

England’s Scott Lincoln took the bronze medal with a throw of 20.99m. Enekwechi expressed his gratitude to God and reflected on his challenging journey, stating that despite moments of self-doubt, he never stopped believing in himself.

This victory was particularly meaningful as it erased the disappointment of finishing fourth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Enekwechi, who previously won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, aims to prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles following this triumph.
