Nwachukwu Sets World Record, Wins Gold at Glasgow 2026

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Goodness Nwachukwu, the defending champion, achieved a remarkable feat by breaking her own world record in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus event. Nwachukwu's winning throw of 39.66 meters not only secured her the gold medal but also exceeded her previous F42 World Record by more than 3 meters.

This victory marked Nigeria's seventh gold medal at the Games. The silver and bronze medals in the event were claimed by Welsh athletes Funmi Oduwaiye and Bree Cronin, who threw 38.52 meters and 36.00 meters, respectively.

Additionally, Team Nigeria's Jessica Oji earned a silver medal in the women’s shot put event with a throw of 17.87 meters. As of now, Nigeria ranks fifth on the medals table with a total of 7 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.
