Gambari Named Distinguished Visiting Scholar at UPenn

Professor Ibrahim Gambari has been appointed as a Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Africana Studies, with his tenure beginning on January 1, 2026, and running until August 31, 2026, with a possibility of extension. This appointment was announced on Monday and recognizes Gambari's extensive contributions to diplomacy, scholarship, and public service over several decades.

Ambassador Sani Saulawa Bala highlighted Gambari's role in promoting the Savannah Center for Diplomacy, Democracy, and Development, which aims to advance diplomacy and democratic development. Gambari's career includes influential roles within Nigeria and internationally, having served as Nigeria's Minister of External Affairs and as the Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

He has worked closely with four UN Secretaries-General and has been described as an icon of public service in Nigeria. The appointment reinforces the growing global interest in African scholarship and leadership in international governance.
