Borno Attacks Ranked Among World’s Deadliest in 2025

The 2026 Global Terror Index report highlights that attacks in Borno State, Nigeria, are among the world's deadliest in 2025. The report details a significant incident on September 5, 2025, when gunmen stormed Darajam Village in Bama Local Government Area, killing 58 villagers and five soldiers.

Although no group claimed responsibility, local media sources attributed the attack to the Islamic State West Africa Province. Additionally, Nigeria ranks as the 12th deadliest incident globally, with a Boko Haram attack on May 15, 2025, in Mallam Karamti Kwatandashi, Kukawa LGA, resulting in the abduction of approximately 100 civilians, with 57 bodies later recovered and 70 individuals reported missing.

The report indicates that Nigeria experienced a 237% increase in terror-related deaths in 2025, contrasting with Burkina Faso, which saw a significant drop in such fatalities.
