Nigeria's Deadliest Terror Attacks Ranked Globally

According to the 2026 Global Terror Index report, Nigeria recorded two of the world's deadliest terrorist attacks in 2025. The first incident occurred on September 5, 2025, in Darajam, Bama Local Government Area, Borno State, where gunmen attacked the community, killing 58 villagers and five soldiers.

Although no organization claimed responsibility at the time, local media sources attributed the attack to the Islamic State West Africa Province. The second deadliest incident took place on May 15, 2025, when Boko Haram attacked the neighboring village of Mallam Karamti, Kwatandashi, Kukawa Local Government Area, resulting in approximately 100 civilians being taken, with 57 bodies later recovered and 70 individuals reported missing.

The report highlights that Nigeria experienced a significant increase in terror-related fatalities, marking a rise of 237% in 2025.
