GOC Major General Koughna Escapes Terrorist Ambush in Kebbi

On a recent operation, Major General Bemgha Koughna, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, successfully escaped a deadly ambush by suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group near Mayama Hill in Kebbi. The ambush occurred while the GOC was en route to visit frontline troops deployed in the area.

The assailants opened heavy fire on the convoy, but Major General Koughna demonstrated decisive leadership and tactical coordination, leading his troops to respond effectively. The Nigerian Army neutralized five terrorists and repelled the attack, disrupting the terrorists' plans and sending a strong deterrent message to insurgent groups in the region.

Following the engagement, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba reported that troops conducted a thorough sweep of the area, recovering significant caches of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, ammunition, and other materials. The operation underscores the commitment of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army to protect civilians and eliminate terrorist threats across the northwest region.
