Gombe APC Defends Consensus Candidate Selection Process

The Gombe chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended its decision to adopt a consensus candidate for the upcoming governorship election, while also stating that it remains open to the possibility of direct primaries. The announcement followed reactions from aspirants such as Senator Danjuma Goje, Senator Anthony Siyako, Yaro, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, and Said Alkali, who rejected the consensus outcome.

In a statement issued by the state public secretary, Mose Kyari, the APC emphasized that the decision aimed to foster unity and sustain internal stability, avoiding disputes typically associated with contested primaries. Kyari noted that the party had conducted broad consultations involving party elders and committees.

He also addressed concerns raised by aspirants who felt excluded from the process, stating that they had voluntarily absented themselves from the consensus arrangement. The APC assured that aspirants would have the opportunity to contest in direct primaries, aligning with constitutional provisions.
