Pantami Rejects Gwamna as APC Consensus Candidate

Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami publicly rejected Jamilu Gwamna as the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 Gombe State governorship election. This announcement followed a meeting held by party stakeholders, including Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who endorsed Gwamna.

Pantami expressed his concerns via a verified Facebook post, emphasizing that a valid consensus candidate cannot emerge without the involvement of all aspirants who must express their interest through nomination forms. He advised party members to remain calm and adhere to legal provisions, specifically referencing the Nigeria Electoral Act of 2026, which outlines the nomination process.

Pantami highlighted that the two methods of candidate selection do not include consensus and that any aspirant must provide written consent to step down. He called for direct primaries, stating that every registered party member has the right to vote directly for their preferred candidate, urging APC leadership to address these legal challenges.
