Gombe Residents Praise Peaceful By-Election Amid Low Turnout

Residents of Gombe metropolis expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election. Voters commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its arrangements that ensured a credible exercise.

Voter Buhari Ibrahim, who is physically challenged, described the process as "seamless and peaceful," noting no discrimination during voting. Dalhatu Boderi also praised the atmosphere and the impressive turnout at his polling unit.

Maryam Salisu encouraged more female participation, while Zaliha Garba emphasized women's critical role in elections. However, Rear Admiral Jamila Mailafa, INEC National Commissioner for the North-East, reported a low voter turnout, stating that while the election process was seamless and peaceful, many polling units had few voters.

She observed that voting commenced at 8:30 am, but attendance was low in most areas she visited, although some voters were beginning to arrive.
