Gombe Court Grants Bail to Defamation Accused Suleiman Dawawu

On Monday, the Gombe Chief Magistrate Court No. 1 granted bail to Suleiman Dawawu, who faces charges of defamation and injurious falsehood against Dr Jamil Gwamna, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Gombe State. Dawawu, a resident of Manawachi Quarters, was arraigned before Magistrate Musa Kilawa following an alleged publication made on July 28, 2026.

The prosecution claims that Dawawu, along with Abba Pantami and Hafiz Kabade, who are currently at large, published statements on their Facebook accounts asserting that Gwamna had been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for fraud involving the diversion of funds from the Kano Electricity Distribution Company. The prosecution argued that the publication was made with the intent to harm Gwamna's reputation.

Dawawu pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his counsel, Barrister Emma Dilos Lasmadas, requested bail, citing the presumption of innocence. Magistrate Kilawa granted the bail and adjourned the case for further proceedings.
