Gombe APC Candidate Petitions Police Over Defamation Claims

Dr. Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Gombe State, has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police regarding a coordinated online campaign aimed at damaging his reputation ahead of the 2027 governorship election. The petition requests an investigation into allegations of cyberbullying, criminal defamation, and the dissemination of false information, particularly claims that he was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Gwamna has denied these allegations, asserting that no such arrest occurred. The petition indicates that the online posts are part of a broader strategy to mislead the public and influence perceptions during a critical political period.

Gwamna has also sought the involvement of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) due to indications that some individuals behind the campaign may be operating from outside Nigeria. He has requested law enforcement to trace the origins of the publications and gather digital evidence from relevant technology firms, including Meta Platforms.

His spokesperson, Ibrahim Shawai, confirmed the submission of the petition and emphasized Gwamna's focus on his political activities.
