Gombe Hospital Denies Kidney Removal Allegations

Gombe State Specialist Hospital strongly denied allegations circulating on social media that a doctor unlawfully removed a kidney from Mr. Barira Alhassan during a caesarean section performed in May 2026.

In a statement obtained on Sunday, the hospital labeled the claims made by Mr. Zakaria Alhassan, the patient's brother, as false, malicious, and reckless, lacking any medical evidence.

The hospital clarified that Mr. Alhassan underwent an emergency caesarean section due to stress, and no procedures involving kidney removal were performed.

Further investigations, including a CT intravenous urogram, indicated that the patient's condition was consistent with a congenital absence of a kidney, rather than surgical removal. The hospital met with the patient's family on two occasions to explain the findings and offered to arrange repeat investigations at an independent medical facility.

The management condemned the social media campaign aimed at tarnishing the hospital's reputation and stated that they would pursue legal action against those spreading defamatory information.
