Gombe Workshop Addresses Fake News Ahead of Elections

A two-day workshop aimed at tackling fake news was held in Gombe State, Nigeria, organized by Alkal Magazine. The event gathered religious leaders, journalists, and community experts to address the growing threat of misinformation, particularly in the context of the upcoming elections.

Alhasan Bala, the editor of Alkal Magazine, described the workshop as timely, warning that misinformation and disinformation are expected to intensify as elections approach. He noted the challenges posed by emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and deep fake content, which make it increasingly difficult to distinguish truth from falsehood.

The rapid spread of information on social media can mislead thousands within minutes, posing serious risks to peace and public trust. The workshop received royal endorsement from Emir Gombe Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, who emphasized the importance of the initiative and urged clerics to share the knowledge gained with their communities to combat false narratives.
