FG Advocates Media Collaboration to Combat Misinformation

During the 2026 World Press Freedom Day commemorations at the Radio House in Abuja, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, urged stronger collaboration among media, government, and institutional stakeholders to address the increasing threats posed by misinformation and disinformation. Idris emphasized that press freedom is a constitutional right and reaffirmed the government's commitment to protecting journalists and promoting responsible media practices.

He condemned any form of intimidation or harassment against journalists, stating that such actions undermine democratic institutions and weaken democracy itself. The minister highlighted the need for a safe and free media environment, which is essential for democracy, and called for the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act.

He also mentioned the government's investment in public communication platforms and partnerships aimed at promoting media literacy in Nigeria.
