Gombe State Recovers 4.3 Hectares of Encroached Land

Gombe State has successfully recovered 4.3 hectares of encroached land in the Shehu Abubakar District, which had been illegally subdivided and sold without approval. Dr.

Kabir Usman Hassan, the Director General of the Gombe Geographic Information System, disclosed this during an inspection tour of the area. The recovered land includes 2.6 hectares originally reserved for public use, which had been sold to unsuspecting buyers, and 1.7 hectares encroached upon by individuals.

The state government aims to revert the land to public ownership as part of its efforts to tackle land encroachment. Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has directed that allocations prioritize affected titleholders, ensuring fair and transparent processes.

The government has also initiated a ₦3.98 billion erosion control project covering 7.5 kilometers to protect infrastructure and ensure sustainable growth in the district. The governor warned titleholders to develop allocated plots within six months to avoid forfeiture.
