Google Enhances AI Search with Yorùbá and Hausa Support

Google has announced the addition of Yorùbá and Hausa language support to its AI-powered search features in Nigeria, enabling millions of users to interact with advanced search tools in their native languages. This update is part of a larger initiative aimed at enhancing digital inclusivity across Africa, where Google now supports a total of 13 African languages.

The new features allow users to receive quick AI-generated summaries and explore topics or queries in Yorùbá and Hausa. Taiwo Kola Ogunlad, a community public affairs manager for West Africa at Google, emphasized the importance of reflecting the diverse languages and cultures of the region in technology.

The update means that students in Kano can ask questions in Hausa, while traders in Ibadan can seek advice in Yorùbá. Users can access these features via the Google app on Android and iOS devices or through the web version by tapping the AI mode within the search interface.
