Google Urges Nigerian Users to Update Chrome for Security

Google has announced a new security update for its Chrome browser to address a serious vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-85046, which has a CVSS score of 8.8 and is classified as high severity. This type-confusion flaw could enable remote attackers to execute malicious code within Chrome's sandbox when users visit specially crafted web pages.

Google confirmed that exploits are already circulating and has withheld technical details to mitigate further exploitation while users apply the patch. The update resolves 12 vulnerabilities across various components of the browser, including V8, WebGL, and DevTools.

Salvatore Gulizia, a security researcher, discovered the flaw and reported it to Google on August 4, 2026, receiving a $1,000 bug bounty for his responsible disclosure. The update is being rolled out gradually, and users are advised to check for updates by navigating to More > Help > About Google Chrome.

The vulnerability poses significant risks for Nigerian users, particularly as Chrome is widely used for online banking and e-commerce.
