Ghana Launches Marrify App for Marriage Verification

On August 28, 2023, Ghana introduced Marrify, a digital platform designed to enable the public to verify marriage and divorce records. Launched in Accra by Marry Right Ghana Limited in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Marrify serves as a searchable registry for ordinance, customary, and Islamic marriages.

Users can search using various details such as names, spouse names, towns, and certificate numbers. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, emphasized the importance of verifying information about partners and officiants before marriage.

She encouraged collaboration with government institutions and other stakeholders to maintain accurate and updated records. The platform includes divorce records linked to court rulings and cautions that not all records are currently uploaded, meaning a lack of results does not confirm a person's marital status.

Marrify also allows submissions of marriage and divorce records for verification.
