Adeleke Appoints Tajudeen Olanrewaju as New Akire

On February 27, 2026, Governor Ademola Adeleke appointed Tajudeen Olanrewaju as the new Akire of Ikire, succeeding the late Oba Olatund Falabi, who passed away. This decision was made during a meeting of the Osun State Executive Council held in Osogbo.

The council, led by Governor Adeleke, confirmed the appointment through a statement issued by the Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi. The Akire stool has been subject to disputes dating back to 2021, following a Supreme Court judgment in 2014 that ruled the Lambeloy ruling house had no legal right to occupy the stool when it became vacant in 1987.

The Osun State government has been working with five ruling houses in Ikire to amend the 1958 Akire chieftaincy declaration, which will facilitate the selection of the next monarch whenever the stool becomes vacant. In addition to Olanrewaju's appointment, the council approved the elevation of new traditional rulers across the state, including Prince Tijani Feyi Ademola Aladodo in Atakumosa East Local Government Area and Prince Dr.

Jacob Adetayo Haastrup as Olumobi Imobi Ijesa in the same area.
