Benue Governor Alia Seeks UN Partnership for Resilience

Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, Nigeria, has expressed a desire for a strategic partnership with the United Nations during an official visit with Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed. Alia highlighted that Benue is ready to transform its vulnerabilities into long-term resilience, emphasizing that the state's future relies on global collaboration to address food security, climate resilience, and human dignity.

He noted the pressing humanitarian burden in the state, which includes 500,000 internally displaced persons. Since assuming office in 2023, Alia's administration has focused on an integrated development agenda, including the rehabilitation of 375 public schools and the recruitment of 9,700 teachers.

He also mentioned the establishment of free education policies and the rehabilitation of rural health centers. Alia outlined five strategic areas for UN collaboration, including climate resilience and human capital development, reaffirming Benue's ambition to become a model for sub-national transformation.
