Two Arrested for Illegal Revenue Collection in Anambra

The Anambra State Special Anti-Tout Squad arrested two suspects, Michael Uwaoma and Ndubuisi Aniukwu, for illegal revenue collection as part of an ongoing enforcement operation aimed at eliminating unauthorized extortion across the state. The suspects were apprehended for allegedly extorting traders operating at Mgbuka Obosi, Umusiom Junction, Nkpor, in the Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to a press statement issued by the agency's spokesperson, Karen Jame, the suspects were arraigned in a competent magistrate's court and remanded in custody pending the determination of their case. The court granted bail under strict conditions, including a 100,000 naira bail bond and a 300,000 naira fine, with a requirement for verification by a level 17 civil servant as surety.

The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2026, for further hearing. Jame reiterated the agency's zero-tolerance stance against illegal levies and extortion, encouraging the public to report such incidents.
