Governor Oyebanji Supports 2026 Ikogosi Road Race

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has endorsed the 2026 Ikogosi 17.5km Road Race, emphasizing its role in youth empowerment and local economic development. The marathon is set for October 31, running from Ilawe to the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort.

The governor's support is part of a broader strategy to leverage sports for creating economic opportunities. Organizers expect the event to benefit local artisans, hoteliers, transport operators, and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).

Young participants will gain practical experience in event management, hospitality, logistics, and media. To promote local talent, a special incentive will be awarded to the first Ekiti-born athlete to finish in the top 10.

Femi Abegunde, the marathon's initiator, commended the governor's ongoing support, stating that it reflects a vision to utilize athletics for youth empowerment, economic growth, and enhancing the state's image. The race also aims to showcase Ekiti's natural attractions and its potential for global tourism and investment.
