Katsina Governor Radda Launches $1M Food Security Initiative

Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda unveiled a $1 million food security project titled “Protecting Food Security Against Recurring Floods and Drought” on September 19, 2026. This initiative, implemented by Mercy Corps Nigeria in collaboration with the Katsina State Development Management Board and the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, aims to bolster vulnerable farming communities against climate-related challenges over a 12-month period.

The project will initially target Bindawa, Bakori, and Kafur local government areas, focusing on rehabilitating 12 solar-powered water systems, enhancing 150 farms with soil bunds, contour barriers, and drainage, restoring degraded land, and improving food storage facilities. Additionally, it will promote climate-smart farming and provide cash-for-work opportunities for 180 individuals.

Governor Radda also announced N1 million take-off packages for 361 graduates of the second DRATESS-Songhai agricultural training program, with an initial disbursement of N500,000 per beneficiary. The Makera Songhai Centre will be expanded to accommodate 1,000 trainees.
