Soludo Appoints Bishop Kukah as COOU Chancellor

On Wednesday, Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State announced the appointment of Rev.

Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).

This appointment is anticipated to enable Kukah to utilize his extensive global network to foster international partnerships and inspire ethical leadership within the university. Kukah is recognized as a significant Nigerian intellectual and cleric, with contributions to academic scholarship and social justice in Nigeria.

He studied at St. Augustine Major Seminary in Plateau State and obtained a diploma in Religious Studies from the University of Ibadan.

His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Divinity from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome, a Master’s degree in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford, and a Ph.D. from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). Kukah is also the founder of the Kukah Centre, which advocates for interfaith harmony and policy reform.
