Governor Aliyu's Ramadan Feeding Program Faces Opposition Critique

Governor Aliyu of Sokoto State is under scrutiny from the opposition, particularly the People Democratic Party (PDP), regarding the state's Ramadan feeding program. The opposition alleges that the program, which has a budget of 1 billion Naira, is being misrepresented as a success while failing to deliver adequate support during Aliyu's eight years in office.

They claim that the program is a propaganda tool, circulating photographs of food distributions organized by private individuals and falsely attributing them to the state government. The program is set to expand from 155 feeding centers in 2025 to 170 in 2026, aiming to provide approximately 1,020,000 meals throughout Ramadan.

However, the opposition focuses on the 1 billion Naira budget figure without considering the comprehensive costs involved, including procurement and logistics. Governor Aliyu emphasizes that the initiative is part of a broader welfare framework and invites individual contributions to support vulnerable citizens during Ramadan.
