Kebbi Governor Prioritizes Student Safety Amid Insecurity

Governor Idris of Kebbi State stated that the safety of pupils and students is a top priority, reaffirming the necessity of school closures in parts of the state affected by banditry. This decision, made seven months ago, is not politically motivated but a response to ongoing security challenges.

The governor highlighted that Kebbi is not alone in this situation, referencing that schools in Borno and other northern states have remained closed for extended periods due to insecurity. Governor Idris deployed hundreds of vehicles and motorcycles to increase military and police presence and provided financial and logistical support to security agencies.

He engaged stakeholders, including security chiefs, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, to develop solutions. Recently, he hosted a meeting with first-term APC governors to strategize on curbing insecurity and reaffirmed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A joint security fund was established, chaired by former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Martin Agwai and former SGF Alhaji Yayal Ahmad, with Kebbi State contributing 1 billion monthly to confront insecurity.
