Governor Oborevwori approves N10 billion to clear pension arrears in Delta

Governor Oborevwori of Delta State has approved the immediate release of N10 billion to clear outstanding pension arrears owed to retirees in the state. The decision was announced during a meeting with the Chairman of the Bureau of State Pensions and the State Chairman of the Association of Contributory Retirees.

The meeting aimed to address issues concerning retiree welfare, including payment backlogs and challenges with the Contributory Pension Scheme. Governor Oborevwori emphasized that his administration has already paid N36 billion in service pensions and has released N10 billion for monthly pension payments since assuming office.

He acknowledged that the arrears predated his administration and must be urgently tackled. The governor also announced the constitution of an oversight team to ensure transparency in the implementation of the funds.
