Soludo Declares End to Southeast Monday Sit-at-Home

On Monday, Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State declared the end of the long-standing Monday sit-at-home order in the Southeast, which had been initiated by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to demand the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Speaking at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit 2026, Soludo noted that the traffic congestion he experienced in Onitsha was indicative of a return to normalcy for residents and businesses.

He emphasized that the sit-at-home had severely disrupted economic activities, education, and public services in the region. Soludo previously led a walk through the Onitsha Main Market in February to encourage business operations on Mondays, asserting that the continued observance of the sit-at-home had become economically harmful.

He had also addressed market leaders in Awka earlier in January, questioning the relevance of the sit-at-home order. His remarks at the summit included praise for Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his economic initiatives.
