Bayelsa Government Halts Illegal Mining Activities, Cites Safety Concerns

The Bayelsa State Government has issued a directive to suspend all unauthorized and illegal mining activities in the state, particularly targeting the extraction of silicon, known as black sand, in areas like Foropa and Ama. Governor Diri emphasized the dangers posed by illegal mining and warned against flouting the order, stressing the need for proper consultation and adherence to environmental regulations.

The move aims to attract legitimate investors and safeguard community safety and revenue. Community leaders have been urged to comply with the law to avoid arrest and prosecution.
