Northern Governors Propose Mining Ban and Security Fund to Tackle Insecurity

In a joint meeting of the Northern State Governors Forum (NSGF) and the Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) in Kaduna, leaders expressed deep concern over the surge in killings, abductions, and terror attacks in states like Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano, Borno, and Yobe. They proposed a temporary ban on mining, establishment of a ₦1 billion monthly security fund, and endorsed the need for state police to combat insecurity.

The leaders also commended the government's efforts in rescuing kidnapped schoolchildren. Urgent coordinated interventions were deemed necessary to address the unacceptable tragedies.
