Nigerian Miners Oppose Nationwide Mining Ban, Cite Security Concerns

The Miners Association of Nigeria, led by Sulaiman Liman, strongly opposes the proposed nationwide suspension of mining activities, fearing it will exacerbate poverty and bolster criminal elements. The association argues that a blanket ban, similar to the one imposed in Zamfara State in 2019, yielded no positive results and may further fuel insecurity in neighboring states like Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and Kebbi.

Ayankal, a representative, emphasizes the need for legal mining operations, tighter regulations, and collaboration with security agencies to combat illegal mining activities effectively. The miners stress the importance of attracting investments, enhancing sector competitiveness, and promoting rural development through responsible mining practices.
