Lagos State Government Collaborates for Wetlands Protection on World Wetlands Day

The Lagos State Government, led by Permanent Secretary of the Office of Environmental Services Dr. Tajudeen Gaji, has called on stakeholders, including traditional leaders and civil society, to support wetlands protection across the state.

The call was made during the 2026 World Wetlands Day celebration held at Yafin Jetti and Yafin Badagri. The event highlighted the theme of "Wetlands: Traditional Knowledge" and emphasized the crucial role of traditional knowledge systems in sustaining wetland ecosystems and preserving cultural identities.

The Permanent Secretary, along with Director of Conservation Ecology Tolu Adeyo, stressed the need for a collaborative approach to safeguard wetlands amidst urban expansion, infrastructure development, and climate change threats. The state government plans to implement public awareness programs, erect warning signposts, and establish a monitoring system to identify and protect wetlands across the state.
